About Us
Who we are, where we came from, and why a group of volunteers in Singapore spends its weekends dressed as the bad guys of the galaxy.
Where It All Began
The 501st Legion was founded in August 1997 by Albin Johnson and Tom Crews in South Carolina, USA, starting as a small group of Star Wars fans who wanted to build screen-accurate Imperial costumes just for the love of it. Today it has grown into a worldwide volunteer organisation with tens of thousands of members across more than 70 units on six continents — and the Singapore Garrison is proud to be part of that global family.
We're not employed by Lucasfilm or Disney, but we operate under their generally accepted guidelines for Star Wars fan organisations, and the Legion is widely recognised as the go-to Imperial costuming group for official and unofficial Star Wars events alike.

From Outpost to Garrison
Discovered by the Legion Founder
Legion Founder Albin Johnson learned that Star Wars costumers were already active in Singapore, and began the process of granting the group official recognition as a new outpost of the 501st Legion.
Outpost status confirmed
Singapore's outpost status was confirmed by Legion leadership, pending formal activation alongside several other new international outposts.
Singapore Outpost officially formed
The Singapore Outpost was officially established. Timothy Lucas Tan became the outpost's first Commanding Officer, a role he held until July 2006.
Paul Khoo elected CO
Paul Khoo was elected the outpost's next Commanding Officer, just weeks before a major milestone.
Promoted to full Garrison status
Membership grew to the 25 members required for full Garrison status, and the Legion Council approved Singapore's promotion from outpost to Garrison. Paul Khoo became our first Garrison Commanding Officer.
